Uploading Your Site: FTP

The main method of uploading files to your site's account is by using FTP.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, because that is what you are doing, transferring files to a server.

When you sign up with a host, you will probably get an FTP account that lets you access files in your account (usually ftp.yoursitename.com and your main account name and password).


Process:

1. You will need this information to upload your site (provided to you by your host:

•ftp location
•account or user name
•password

2. Then you enter this information through one of the following methods to Upload file or Download files:

• an FTP client such as the one built-in to your operating system (on PC for example CuteFTP or WS_FTP)

• an FTP client such as Fetch (macintosh)

• by using your web page editor such Dreamweaver.
