Getting Your Site Up

Hosts: Finding a Host

It is hard to find a good host. One that may be good for one person may not work for others. And a good host can sell the company to someone else and go bad---in terms of service and required maintenance for you the buyer.

Recommended to me:

cheaper: $5-$9 per month
IDSOFT. Supposed to be really good. Read.
FeaturePrice. Supposed to be good. See.
ipowerweb. Supposed to be good. See.
your-site. Supposed to be good. See.
Pair Networks. A friend has them and likes them. Read.
Host Rocket. Supposed to be good. See.

more expensive: $13-$19 per month
mediatemple
. Friends use them and like it.
hostway
. Supposed to be good. See.
dellhosts. Supposed to be good. See.
bizhosting. Supposed to be good for ecommerce. Free trial. See.

whoever your ISP is.

Stay away from:
• hosts that offer unlimited space for less than $10.00 a month. Something is wrong. They can't afford to do that. They are cutting costs somewhere. If you use more space then they like, they ask you to leave or upgrade.
•Bad uptime. Research into the hosts UPTIME.
•No emergency phone number.  Many cheapest hosts only have email support.
•Slow setup.
• No support on weekends.
•No control panel.  This may be OK for experienced webmasters but many new users need a control panel.
•No POP access to emails.  Some hosts only offer Web access to site's email accounts.

Ones I don't Recommend:
http://www.infinology.com
. They require a great deal of maintenance for the buyer. Much of which is technically advanced. And just bought out from another company that was much easier to make contact with. Never set up my site until I called and harassed. Took 2 months for them to set up my site.

http://www.hostonce.com. Contact with them is email only and they rarely set things up right. Took over 1 month for a friend to set up his site. They are very cheap, but not worth it.

This one is really bad. Many people have their sites go down for weeks. They don't respond easily when you need help, etc. I've read many complaints about them. Click here to read some.

They also get a lot of customer complaints. A lot of down time and slow servers. Many people lost their sites when they upgraded. Scary!!! This one is not good. Click here to read.
