INTERNET TIMELINE
1991
Commercial providers for Internet dial-up access develop
ARPNET ends. Tim
Berners-Lee creates the World Wide Web and invents html.
Initially non-graphic. Graphics came later with a browser called NCSA Mosaic that
Internet Explorer and Netscape are based on.
1993
Mosaic Web browser developed. User friendly graphical interface. Turns into Netscape.
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C ) started founded by Tim Berners-Lee to develop
web
protocols.
Marc Andreessen, a college student, added the <img> tag, making it possible
to add images to his mosaic browser.
1994
Marc Andreessen moved to Silicone Valley and started Netscape.
Yahoo (Yet Another Hierarchically Officious Oracle) developed by a group of Stanford
Students that began a collection of their favorite sites and organized them in
a hierarchy sorted by subject.
1995
New WWW technologies emerge: JavaScript, Java, Active X.
