Workflow

When working on a robust animation series, many individuals are responsible for very specific tasks. The key production tasks are:

-storyboards: storyboard artist
-Programming the architecture: Flash Programmer
-character design: Art Director
-character animation: Animator
-background design: Art Director
-scanning, character/background color and line prep.: production artists
-implementor (animation and boards into architecture): Flash Technician: theme, character, effects audio-sound artist/Composer

On a large job, more than one person in each category may be necessary, as well as a management team: Creative Director, Technical Director, Production Coordinators and Supervisors.

A typical work flow cycle for an Flash Film:

Concept/Script-> Storyboard-> Audio Recording-> X sheet timing-> Animation Drawn-> Digital Pencil Test-> Revised Animation Scanned-> Color & BGs Added-> Sound Laid In-> Transfer to Digital Tape-> Output for Broadcast and Film

Another typical work flow cycle for an Flash Film:

Concept/Script-> Storyboard-> Audio Recording-> Sound Laid Into Animatic -> Boards Added and Timed to Sound in Animatic -> Character Animation Drawn (in Flash) over Animatic -> Color & BGs Added over Animatic -> Publishing (storyboards removed or hidden)->Transfer to Digital Tape-> Output for Broadcast and Film

The most important thing to remember when so many different jobs /tasks are necessary is to label and name everything clearly. Organize all your work with the idea that someone who has never seen it before may need to understand what you have done. Keep all layers labeled and library items organized in folders and labeled in a clear way when possible (time may not allow this on a rushed project, but sometimes it must be done). For programmers, if your are working on something that you anticipate becoming extensive and useful in the future, comment all scripts.
