Masks

Masking can be done either with mask layers, which mask whatever is justified underneath them, or with shapes that are literally placed on top of the layer underneath, cutting out the section that you want to show through. Sometimes you will not be able to use Flash's mask layers and will have to resort to the manual placing of shapes cut out on top of your layer to mask out.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can't have more than one symbol in the Mask layer. When you need multiple objects (like two holes in the mask), be sure to modify, Break Apart everything in the Mask layer. Also you can't combine Guides and Masks. And when you put a movie clip in a mask layer, it behaves like a graphic, no scripting in the mask layer will work.
