Domain Names: Explained
A domain name is a name that you choose and buy to help identify your Internet Site. Domain names have 2 parts, separated by dots. The left part is the name you choose and the right is .net or .com or .org, etc.
ex.

funsite.com
  funsite.net
  funsite.org
You need to do
more than buy a name though, you need to also get someone to host or serve your
site. A machine that will store the site and present it to users on other machines.
Usually this costs money as well.
So to get your stuff on the web, you need a name for where it will go and then a place to put it.
